Tree Removal In Gwandalan, New South Wales
Local Tree Removal Gosford provides tree removal in Gwandalan, for homes, commercial and lakeside properties, along with tree cutting, stump grinding, land clearing and emergency storm work. This page covers the bushland, reserves and lake edge around Gwandalan, which decide what you can remove.
Bushland, Reserves And Lake Edge
A Central Coast Council agenda summary, reported by Coast Community News, describes Gwandalan as generally low-density residential development surrounded by bushland on the western shore of Crangan Bay on Lake Macquarie. The same summary lists Munmorah State Conservation Area, Wallarah National Park and Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area among the conservation areas around it. That description is from around 2018, so treat it as background rather than a current map.
State conservation areas
Land in Wallarah National Park and the two State Conservation Areas is state reserve, not private land and not council land. A tree on it isn’t yours to remove, even if it overhangs your boundary.
Council reserves
Council’s community land plan of management (in force 14 July 2025) lists Gwandalan lots as natural area foreshore (on Koowong Road, Noamunga Crescent and Gamban Road), natural area bushland (on Kanangra Drive, Gamban Road, Parraweena Road and Peninsular Drive) and natural area wetland (on Bonny Boy Way), plus parks. Contact council on 02 4306 7900 about a tree on any of them.
Mangroves on the foreshore
A 2010 environmental assessment for a large Gwandalan site mapped a mangrove estuarine complex along the Lake Macquarie foreshore and in an inlet called Mangrove Gully. NSW DPI Fisheries requires a permit to harm mangroves, saltmarsh or seagrass on the foreshore up to about 1.0 m AHD. The rule is explained on our Davistown page.
Endangered communities
The same 2010 assessment mapped bushland communities consistent with endangered ecological communities, such as swamp sclerophyll forest on coastal floodplains. Council’s exemptions don’t apply to endangered ecological communities. The assessment covered one large site, not your block, so use it as a prompt to check.
If a tree sits at the water’s edge or backs onto bushland, find out whose it is first. Cutting a council or state tree, or trimming mangroves, isn’t covered by the exemptions that apply to a tree in your own garden. The full list of exemptions is on our home page.

Before You Book In Gwandalan
- Check where your boundary sits against any reserve, bushland lot or foreshore. Council can help on 02 4306 7900.
- Look at what grows below the high-tide line if your block touches the lake.
- Have the species identified. Threatened species and endangered communities aren’t covered by council’s exemptions, and our arborist page explains the evidence council asks for.
- If the work is for a building site, see our land clearing page.
- If a storm has brought a tree down, start with our emergency tree removal page.
- Decide about the stump. Our stump grinding page covers the options.
